Today, Indra Group presented its Growth and Investment Plan for Catalonia in Barcelona, with which it intends to create 1,500 new jobs, with as many as 5,000 highly qualified professionals by 2027, and manage over €550 million of business for customers around the world, thus consolidating its standing as the leading technology company for jobs in Catalonia.
This was one of the main announcements made by Ángel Simón, the company’s chairman, and José Vicente de los Mozos, its CEO, at the event titled Innovate, advance, grow. All together, stronger. The moment has come, at which the technology company brought together over 200 companies, SMEs, startups, universities, and research centers. The event also included speeches by Salvador Illa, President of the Government of Catalonia, and Amparo Valcarce and Jordi García Brustenga, the Secretaries of State for Defence and Industry.
De los Mozos outlined the main strategic lines of the Plan for Growth in Catalonia, which is structured around five priority sectors to be expanded: space and communications, cybersecurity, cyber defence and comprehensive security, land vehicles, and the digitalization of industry and the public administrations. Likewise, the new plan for growth defines three main cross-cutting axes of corporate development: technology, talent, and the relation with civil society.
According to the plan, Indra Group expects to multiply its sales generated in Catalonia by 1.5 by 2027, with the region managing over €550 million for customers around the world. As for jobs, the corporation has operational centers in Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona, and Lleida, where it currently employs over 3,500 highly qualified professionals.
Within the framework of the agreement, Indra Group has formalized around nineteen agreements with SMEs, startups, and research centers with capabilities in dual (civil and military) technologies, cybersecurity and space, key areas for the projects undertaken by Indra Group in Catalonia that are geared towards the industrial plans of the Special Modernization Programs (SMPs) of the Ministry of Defence.
A commitment to the future of Catalonia
During his speech, Indra Group chairman Ángel Simon emphasized that the current European context requires companies that are capable of delivering stability, an industrial vision, and long-term executive capabilities. He recalled that Indra has fostered an ecosystem of partnerships in Catalonia for over three decades, focusing on innovation, industry, and talent while addressing European strategic priorities. He also highlighted the company's role as a leading integrator of technology in the areas of defence, security, space, and artificial intelligence.
“Europe needs a solid industrial base to preserve its autonomy. Indra is ready to lead this challenge as a trusted partner of institutions and a driving force of industry, promoting projects in Catalonia and other regions that generate strategic capabilities, skilled employment, and opportunities for young people,” he concluded.
As for Indra Group CEO José Vicente de los Mozos, he highlighted the company’s determination to promote and consolidate the industrial ecosystem of Catalonia, harnessing the innovative impetus that the new investments in technology and the modernization of security and defence capabilities will bring. “We’re committed to the Catalan industrial fabric, which stands out for its excellence and innovative capabilities, and, at the same time, we’ve undertaken to create 1,500 new quality jobs in less than a year, thus consolidating Indra Group’s position as the leading technology company for jobs in Catalonia”.
European security and sovereignty
The Plan for Catalonia has been drawn up with a view to strengthening Indra Group’s Leading the Future Strategic Plan in the region. Focusing on defence, aerospace, and advanced digital technologies, it’s designed to enable the company to become a leading national benchmark for technology and defence in less than 10 years and play a key role in European security and sovereignty.
With this same philosophy, the plan seeks to enhance the group’s operations and activity throughout Catalonia, increasing the business which is managed and expanding its workforce of professionals so as to reinforce its role as a driving force for companies based in the region that belong to high value-added sectors.
Indra Group’s plan is therefore designed to promote Catalonia’s participation in the wave of Spanish and European investments aimed at the defence and space sectors.
A space for dialog and collaboration
The meeting of the Catalan business ecosystem in Barcelona featured speeches by Miguel Ángel Panduro, managing director of Indra Space, Ignacio Martínez, managing director of IndraMind, and Frank Torres, managing director of Indra Land Vehicles, the heads of three of the areas of Indra Group that are key to driving industry towards the development and application of dual technologies in the defence sector.
