High-impact technologies for the future

Through this pillar of innovation we ensure the exploration of the frontiers of technology to anticipate new operational scenarios, driving advanced capabilities through electronic evolution, photonics, quantum technologies, and next-generation manufacturing.

Electronic, photonic, quantum, and next-generation manufacturing innovation for enhanced capabilities

Discover below some related examples of our most cutting-edge partner solutions.

Digital reception in electronic warfare

Our electronic warfare systems have for decades incorporated ultra-wideband digital reception (UWB DRX) technology, deployed across naval, land, and air platforms. This capability enables highly precise and effective operations in saturated electromagnetic environments, thanks to real-time processing of pulsed and continuous wave signals. The Rigel and ALR-400 product families embody this evolution towards a software-defined concept that is redefining operational boundaries.

High-power radar with GaN technology

We develop long-range radars with high-power transmission and electronic beam steering (AESA) for both air defence and dual-use applications. We apply gallium nitride (GaN) technology to maximise efficiency and performance, even under extreme conditions. The same technology is also integrated into space surveillance, communications, and electronic warfare solutions.

Reconfigurable multifunction equipment

We combine advanced digital reception, AESA, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to design compact, adaptable, and efficient solutions. These systems enable the sharing of functions — radar, electronic warfare, and communications — within a single unit, reconfiguring in real time to meet operational needs.

Preparing for a post-quantum world

Quantum computing poses new risks to digital security. We are anticipating this scenario by developing post-quantum encryption algorithms and methods, strengthening cryptographic keys, and exploring techniques such as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). We are acting today to protect information against tomorrow’s threats.

Quantum computing threatens current asymmetric encryption systems, anticipating the so-called Q-Day. It is suspected that malicious actors are already storing data to decrypt it in the future. Indra Group is developing Quantum-Safe solutions through post-quantum algorithms (PQC) and techniques such as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to protect critical infrastructures.

Cyberdefence with a European vision

We take part of the leading European research project in Cyber Defence, an initiative that brings together companies, SMEs, research centres, and universities to advance collective cybersecurity. Based on artificial intelligence (AI) and metacognition, we are working towards a safer, more resilient Europe in the face of global digital challenges.

At Indra Group we lead the development of advanced technologies that integrate cognitive capabilities, radar, communications, and electronic warfare, contributing to improve situational awareness in various enviroments. In addition, we promote the management, integration and exploitation of results in key projects of the European Defence Fund, consolidating our role as benchmark in R&D&I in the field of cybersecurity.

Photonics vs. Next-Generation Semiconductors

We drive the development of photonics, a technology based on the use of light instead of electricity to transmit information, process signals, or perform quantum functions. This line of innovation enables the creation of faster, more efficient semiconductors with lower energy consumption, with applications in communications, sensors, and advanced computing. To accelerate its adoption, we have established technology and training centers, crucial for promoting knowledge transfer and the development of specialized talent.
