Indra is attending UDT, Europe’s leading underwater technology exhibition, which takes place this year in London from April 14 to 16, showcasing some of the most advanced systems on the market to enhance the operational and intelligence capabilities of submarines.
The company offers cutting-edge satellite communications systems, electronic warfare solutions and navigation radars currently operated by some of the world’s best-prepared navies, including those of Spain, Germany, Norway, Portugal and Italy in Europe, as well as India and South Korea in Asia, among others.
Ana Belén Buendía, Head of Indra’s Naval Business Unit, highlighted that “our systems enable superior situational awareness and intelligence-gathering capabilities and prepare submarines to act as key assets in modern multidomain operations, while simultaneously enhancing their stealth and survivability.”
At its stand, the company will display a reproduction of a submarine sail featuring all Indra systems, optimized to maintain maximum performance and robustness while reducing size as much as possible, deployed across the different masts.
Particular attention is drawn to its TSUB‑40 suite of satellite communications systems, the first on the global market to offer variants in X, Ka and Ku bands, along with three-axis pointing capability to provide a far more stable link with high data rates and minimal power consumption. The system is certified to operate with the Spainsat NG satellite and is ready for certification for use with the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) constellation.
As for the iKeeper‑iS20 navigation radar, it is a silent, solid-state 2D radar operating in X band, featuring low probability of intercept and a dual operating mode: standard and continuous wave, delivering maximum resolution. The system provides surface target surveillance and navigation support capabilities.
The company also stands out as a European leader in Full Digital electronic warfare systems, which it is supplying to the continent’s most advanced navies. At UDT, Indra will showcase the PEGASO Full Digital family of solutions, which equip submarines with early warning, surveillance and detection capabilities to ensure maximum survivability and enable the collection of electronic and communications intelligence (ELINT/COMINT).
These systems feature extended electromagnetic spectrum coverage and powerful analysis capabilities, delivering significant tactical superiority. Their technology directly digitizes the spectrum across the entire bandwidth instantaneously and incorporates artificial intelligence algorithms for information analysis, offering a detection probability close to 100% as well as target discrimination, identification and tracking capabilities.
The company will also present the training and simulation systems it has developed for crew training and mission preparation in a tactical environment with the highest level of realism.
Finally, Indra will showcase its naval systems maintenance services, compliant with NATO requirements, aimed at maximizing operational availability and extending the service life of naval platforms.
The new invisible frontier
As a company committed to constant innovation, Indra will also present some of the research and development initiatives it is currently pursuing. Rafael Arcos, Senior Manager at Indra, will deliver a presentation entitled “Seabed control as the new invisible frontier for maritime security”, highlighting the need for comprehensive situational awareness spanning from the seabed to space, with the ability to autonomously detect and analyze threats and propose appropriate responses. Indra is a pioneer in this field and is leading European R&D projects such as SMAUG, which works in this direction.
