Indra to install intelligent traffic control systems on the A-66 and A-7 in a contract worth approximately euros 8 M

Indra, Spain's leading IT company and one of the main players in Europe, has landed a contract to install traffic control systems on the A-66 motorway joining León and Benavente, and on the stretch of the A-7 connecting Malaga and Nerja. The contracts, both awarded by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT for its initials in Spanish) via public tender, are worth approximately euros 8 M combined.

Indra will equip both these motorways with intelligent traffic control systems and with the communications infrastructure and nodes necessary to connect the systems with the DGT’s communications network. Indra will also handle integration of these traffic management systems with the Malaga and Valladolid control centres, from which traffic on the A-7 and A-66, is managed, respectively.

The systems to be installed by the company will gather information on traffic density and speed, on the kinds of vehicles on the roads at any given time, as well as meteorological information affecting driving conditions, such as temperature, wind direction and force, rain, snow, ice, etc.

Indra will also set up a camera system to enable road visualisation from the control centres at various points along the road. The control system will be rounded out with a variable signalling system that will allow DGT personnel to rapidly and nimbly provide drivers with information, forewarning them of the state of the road and of any incidents that may arise. This element will increase safety on these two roads.
