Indra attends UNVEX as Spain’s leading company in drone development to ensure national sovereignty and the autonomy of the Spanish Armed Forces
The company leads the major national programme that will provide the technological autonomy and sovereignty the Armed Forces need in tactical drones, with the delivery of 147 unmanned aircraft and the mobilisation of Spanish industry
At the event, Indra will unveil some of the new capabilities of its TARSIS drone family with two flight demonstrations
It will present its new low-cost cruise missile, SQUALL, and its DRIZZLE family of effectors, offering a comprehensive response to the Armed Forces’ emerging tactical needs
Indra arrives at this new edition of UNVEX, held in San Javier, Murcia, from 16 to 17 September, as Spain’s leading company in the development of drones for the Armed Forces.
The company is carrying out a major national programme (SANTAM) that ensures Spain’s technological autonomy and sovereignty in the development and manufacture of class I small drones, weighing up to 150 kg, which are essential for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions in any modern conflict. With the delivery of 49 UAS systems, comprising 147 aircraft in total, Indra is driving and strengthening the sector, which will make a huge leap forward in the coming years. During the event, Indra will present the new capabilities of its TARSIS drone family, in its conventional take-off version with the capacity to carry light weapons (TARSIS-W) and its vertical take-off and landing version (TARSIS-VTOL), through a series of flight demonstrations.
The company’s portfolio is complemented by the new products that Indra is presenting at UNVEX, which it has developed for rapid entry into service, enabling an immediate response to changes detected in theatres of operations.
During the event, Indra will present its new low-cost SQUALL missile, designed for precision deep strike against strategic targets, and its new DRIZZLE family of effectors, which provides a low-cost point defence solution against drones, loitering munitions and helicopters in the immediate environment, while also offering ground attack capabilities.
These developments are joined by counter-drone solutions, in fixed versions to protect bases and critical infrastructure, and mobile versions to protect the advance of units on the ground. Indra is a pioneer in the development of this key technology for neutralising attacks, already operated by the Spanish Armed Forces and the armies of other countries, having proven its effectiveness in real-life scenarios.
Finally, the company will take part in several panel discussions. Specifically, Juan Mahón, Business Development Director for the Weapons & Ammunition area, will participate in the session “Hybrid warfare and the use of drones in the delocalisation of conflicts”, while Jorge Munir, Head of Multidomain Combat Cloud Business at Indra, will take part in the debate on “Major industrial programmes: MUM-T systems and mixed swarms”. Ignacio Ojeda, Business Development Director for the Weapons & Ammunition and Air Defence areas, will moderate, in his capacity as reserve general and former head of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Command, the round table entitled “The unmanned threat: territorial defence and critical infrastructure protection”.
Mass production at low cost and artificial intelligence
With this broad deployment of technology and expertise, Indra brings to UNVEX the lessons learned from conflicts such as Ukraine and Spain’s deployment in NATO’s Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative (EFDI), which underline the need to neutralise mass attacks and contain the adversary’s advance through low-cost unmanned systems supported by artificial intelligence. The developments presented by Indra at UNVEX provide a comprehensive response to the tactical needs of a more advanced army and have been developed on the premise that operational superiority depends not only on technology, but on connecting systems, information and people. To address the challenge of the growing robotisation of theatres of operations, the Weapons & Ammunition division is working on smart weapon systems, counter-drone solutions and unmanned systems, while building up a strong industrial dimension. The work carried out by this area is complemented by that of other areas of the company, such as IndraMind, which develops AI-based cognitive systems; Air Dominance, focused on systems for collaborative air combat; and Air Defence, which works on comprehensive, multilayered and in-depth air defence systems and advanced radars.
