Indra incorporates Thales’ LMM missile into the SILAEM programme to develop a point-defence system for naval vessels

Indra is leading the programme to develop Spain’s first very-short-range (VSHORAD), high-precision solution to counter aerial threats and fast-moving vessels
The company has signed a supply agreement with Thales Spain to incorporate its Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM)
Indra has reached an agreement with Thales Spain for the supply of the Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM), which it will integrate into the Shipborne Launcher System (SILAEM) it is developing. SILAEM will be the first very-short-range air defence (VSHORAD) point-defence solution designed in Spain to counter emerging threats in naval environments.
Indra will develop the system and integrate its various component technologies, drawing on its proven expertise in the development and supply of next-generation radars. Specifically, the company will integrate its high-precision fire-control radars, which can detect, track and lock onto complex targets with a minimal radar signature and high resistance to electromagnetic interference.
Thales, for its part, will supply its Lightweight Multirole Missile (LMM), a highly accurate and versatile projectile that is effective against a wide range of asymmetric and conventional threats.
The SILAEM programme was launched in response to the growing need to equip Spanish Navy vessels with a rapid, automated and highly reliable self-protection capability. The combination of Indra’s advanced sensors and fire-control system with Thales’ precision laser-guided LMM missile ensures a minimal reaction time and a high probability of a successful engagement at short range.
The programme will provide the Spanish Armed Forces with a domestically manufactured system that strengthens their autonomy and independence while enabling them to deploy a critical capability more rapidly and flexibly.
