Indra renews its leadership in European R&D programmes and takes part in 15 new European Defence Fund projects, leading two of them

The company ranks as the leading Spanish participant in this edition and one of the three European companies with the greatest weight in these strategic collaborative R&D programmes
Indra strengthens its role as a driving force for Spain’s industrial sector, boosting the participation of large companies, SMEs, research centres and Spanish universities in cutting-edge projects that are critical for defence and have a strong dual-use dimension
Indra is involved in some of the most significant projects of this edition, notably those linked to the development of the combat cloud, the next generation of armoured vehicles, communications systems, radar, command and control, and cyberdefence
Indra has renewed its position as one of Europe’s leading players in defence innovation after being selected to participate in 15 major research and development projects under the European Defence Fund (EDF), promoted by the European Commission, leading two of them.
This result once again positions Indra as the Spanish company with the greatest presence in the current EDF call and consolidates its standing among the three European companies with the highest level of participation in these programmes.
Indra is participating in and leading projects that together represent an aggregate funding of €799 million, reflecting the strategic role the company is assuming in the development of new systems and critical capabilities, as well as its commitment to the European Union’s technological sovereignty and strategic autonomy and to industrial cooperation in Europe.
As regards the two projects led by Indra, SHIMBAD will address the development of a next-generation 4D multiband radar to equip future European combat vessels, while ECC2 will focus on enhancing cyberdefence operational and command-and-control capabilities — an area in which the company has established itself as a leading reference at European level.
Indra’s participation also extends to other key projects across all defence domains, including some of the most relevant in this call, such as EICACS, LATACC2 and E DOMINION, focused on the development of the combat cloud for the air, land and naval domains respectively, as well as the FAMOUS3 programme, the third phase of an initiative in which Indra has been involved since its earliest editions, aimed at the development of land platforms and their associated systems.
The result achieved highlights Indra’s ability to lead and structure large-scale industrial collaborations in Europe, bringing together partners from different countries, of varying sizes, and with diverse technological profiles.
Throughout the various EDF calls and preparatory programmes, the company has taken part in more than 90 R&D projects promoted by the European Commission, leading 13 of them. These initiatives often represent the first step towards major joint capability acquisition programmes in Europe. Indra is therefore in a strong position to take part in the major programmes that will be launched across the continent and to contribute to the objectives of the EU’s Defence Readiness Roadmap 2030.
