Indra to deploy its smart mobility platform alongside Grupo Alsa for the intercity bus network of the Qiddiya City, a gigaproject in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The consortium comprising the Spanish Alsa and Saudi Hafil companies has placed its trust in Indra’s advanced technology to centralize and optimize the management of the first transportation fleet for the new Qiddiya City, a Sports and Entertainment gigaproject south of the Saudi capital Riyadh
In the initial phase, Indra’s solution will permit the real-time monitoring and control of a fleet of 156 buses, which will provide a service to the visitors going to Qiddiya City from Riyadh, thereby reducing congestion and increasing punctuality and passenger safety
With this project, the company will secure an important partnership with Grupo Alsa and reach a milestone in the expansion of Spanish technology in the Middle East
Indra Group has been awarded the contract for the management of the intercity bus network set to operate for the new Qiddiya City, a giga-project in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after winning the contract through the Alsa‑Hafil consortium comprising the Spanish Operator Alsa and Saudi Operator Hafil. Specifically, the company will deploy an integrated technological platform to centralize and optimize the management of the transportation fleet, guaranteeing safe, sustainable, and efficient operations for passengers.
The company’s technology will facilitate real-time monitoring and control of a fleet of 156 buses, 126 of them electric vehicles, thereby providing a service for visitors of Qiddiya City, a new city located on the outskirts of Riyadh.
Indra’s solution provides a holistic view of the entire transport network, monitoring the service, including its punctuality, regulation and quality, and the state of the infrastructure. This system will be key to the running of the Riyadh-Qiddiya intercity connection to facilitate visitors’ direct access from the capital, and the Park & Ride service, which is intended to connect the car parking lots with the theme parks.
By deploying Indra’s technology solution, passengers will be provided with a punctual, reliable, and safe service, with real-time information and solutions to improve accessibility and comfort. The use of public transport will also be encouraged to help reduce congestion and emissions, in keeping with the project’s sustainability goals and Saudi Arabia’s aim to promote cleaner and more efficient mobility.
ALSA’s vehicles will be equipped with onboard systems developed by Indra that incorporate next-generation technologies such as 5G communications, video surveillance, automated passenger counting, driver consoles, and multimedia passenger information solutions.
The cutting-edge SAE technological solution is supported by a cloud-based Operations Control Center, which Indra has already successfully deployed in a large number of cities, including Brisbane (Australia), where it intermodally manages the entire Brisbane Metro fleet with 100% electric vehicles along 21 kilometers of track.
Brand Spain for mobility in the Middle East
This project comes in the wake of Indra’s other strategic mobility deployments in the region, where the company performs the comprehensive management of the ticketing system of Riyadh’s public transportation network, including the sale of tickets and control of accesses to buses, the subway, and BTR. It’s also the key technological partner for the operation of the high-speed railway line linking Mecca and Medina, while it maintains partnerships with Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) to contribute its technology to innovation in rail traffic management and digital signaling in the country.
Indra will thus comply with the development and international expansion of its Strategic Plan by accelerating its operations in the Middle East, which have also been reinforced by its partnerships with EDGE, one of the world’s leading advanced technology groups, to design and manufacture state-of-the-art radars. With these initiatives, Indra will reaffirm its commitment to the digital transformation of transportation in the Middle East, a region which is witnessing significant growth in mobility, and advocate innovative solutions.
