Indra to modernise and upgrade Lithuania's rail traffic management system to enhance network automation and safety

LTG INFRA, Lithuanian railways infrastructure manager, has once again placed its trust in the company's technology to upgrade the system that manages the country's rail network and has been in operation for more than a decade. Indra will also be responsible for maintaining the system over the next ten years
The latest generation of the Traffic Management System (TMS 3.0) features a flexible, scalable, cloud-based architecture that streamlines traffic planning and operations, optimises network capacity, and supports more efficient, automated and safer rail network management
Indra is a technology partner for railway traffic management in countries including Spain, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Lithuania, where its TMS solution has been successfully supporting rail operations for decades
Indra has been awarded a new contract in Lithuania to upgrade its rail traffic management system to the latest TMS 3.0 version, an advanced solution that will enable LTG Infra, the infrastructure arm of Lithuanian Railways, to further modernise and digitalise the management of its rail network, improve operational efficiency and strengthen the safety and cyber-security of infrastructure that is critical to the country's mobility.
This latest success for Indra's Mobility business reinforces the trusted relationship the two companies have maintained for more than a decade and further establishes Indra as LTG Infra's leading technology partner in the development of its railway signalling, control and traffic management systems. Indra will also be responsible for maintaining the system over the next ten years.
The upgrade of Indra's railway traffic management platform to the new TMS 3.0 version represents a significant technological leap for rail operations in Lithuania. It will transform railway operations by enabling more agile, efficient and automated traffic management while meeting the highest standards of quality and safety. The system also provides operators with a single, integrated operational view, optimises the use of network capacity and helps reduce operating costs.
For the first time, Indra's solution leverages advanced cloud-native, microservices-based software architectures to deliver both traffic management and safety-critical (SIL-2) functionality. This enables new capabilities to be introduced progressively and securely, while its flexible, modular and scalable architecture improves the speed and efficiency of calculations, system design, planning and operational processes.
This approach provides LTG Infra with a platform capable of evolving in line with the growing digitalisation needs of the rail sector and of integrating advanced traffic management functionalities within a unified technological ecosystem.
TMS 3.0 also introduces a new level of railway automation, enabling advanced capabilities such as real-time automatic conflict detection and resolution, enhanced operational decision-making and greater network efficiency. The new version is a key component of Indra's Open Digital Signalling ecosystem, a comprehensive vision for the railway of the future that is open, digital and cyber-secure by design, helping to ensure safe and efficient railway operations.
Indra is a technology partner to Lithuanian Railways, for which it has delivered signalling and telecommunications technology as well as its traffic management system, integrating both within the country's National Rail Traffic Management Centre. The company is also working with LTG Infra on initiatives aimed at advancing open digital signalling based on standards compatible with the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 2, promoting interoperability and innovation across the rail sector.
Internationally Recognised Railway Technology
In the railway sector, Indra has extensive international experience and is one of the world's leading providers of rail traffic management solutions. Its TMS system has been successfully deployed and is in operation in countries including Spain, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Lithuania, all of which have repeatedly renewed their confidence in Indra's technology, contributing to safer, more efficient and increasingly digitalised railway operations.
Indra develops its technology in accordance with the highest international standards of quality, reliability and railway safety, rigorously applying the standardised safety procedures used across Europe and meeting the certification requirements for operation in critical signalling and traffic management systems. With the deployment of the upgraded TMS in Lithuania, Indra further strengthens its long-standing partnership and commitment to LTG Infra, while supporting the development of more modern, secure, digital and interoperable railway infrastructure across the Baltic States and facilitating their integration with the wider European rail network.
