Indra´s technology will manage metro Manila´s traffic and the toll system for one of the most important motorways in the Philippines for €10.4 million
Metro Manila, the country?s main metropolitan region, with more than 11 million residents, will be equipped with Indra's urban traffic control system, which is already implemented in a number of cities in China, Brazil, Colombia and Spain
The multinational will also upgrade the toll collection system for the Manila North Luzon Expressway that travels between Manila's metropolitan region and the Central Luzon province and carries more than 160,000 vehicles each day

Indra, one of the leading multinationals in Consulting and Technology in Europe and Latin America, has been awarded two contracts in the Philippines for the implementation of its urban traffic management technology in Metro Manila and the migration of the toll system for the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), one of the nation's main motorways, for the combined amount of €10.4 million. These projects in the Philippines represent a new step for Indra's growing position in the country and allow the multinational to make progress in its objective of increasing its presence in the Asian market.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has awarded Indra, in a consortium with the Philippine company Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation (Miescor), the renewal of the urban traffic management system in Metro Manila, the nation's main metropolitan region. The objective is to automate and optimise to a maximum the management and the traffic engineering installations in order to improve mobility in the metropolitan area, where the growth of the population and the number of vehicles, as well as industrial and commercial activities, are having a negative impact.
The project includes creating and equipping the control centre for all of the city's urban traffic, making it possible to manage more than 500 intersections. It also includes renewing traffic signal facilities of 85 priority intersections and installing a surveillance system equipped with 25 traffic control cameras.
The solution, based on Indra's Hermes system, will continuously track traffic and monitor the various control sub-systems in real time, as well as analyze and consolidate information for decision making related to mobility. This will make it possible to increase road safety and optimise vehicle flows, as well as reduce travel times, costs and environmental impact, which is extremely important for a metropolitan area with one of the greatest population densities in the world and more than 11 million residents.

Toll for the North Luzon Expressway
The contract for the Toll Collection System (TCS) Migration Project of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) has been awarded by the Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC) to Indra in a consortium with Egis Projects Philippines. This project allows Indra to position itself as a technological partner of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, a majority shareholder of MNTC, and one of the tollway groups with the strongest presence in the toll road industry in the Philippines.
The project involves the enhancement of all of NLEX’s 166 toll lanes, which include manual lanes, electronic tolls, mixed and automatic tolls, as well as the new technology for the control centre, the backoffice system and the video surveillance system for all the lanes. The new TCS will be designed to suit the specific requirements of motorists and transport groups and thus allow more variety in payment options. When in place, the new TCS will result in even faster toll payment transactions and is expected to reduce to almost zero the lines at the lanes.
The 90-kilometer long NLEX is one of the most important motorways in the Philippines and is used by more than 160,000 vehicles each day. It connects Manila Metro, the densest and most developed urban area in the Philippines, with other areas of Central and North Luzon.
