Mumbai's future monorail and Dehli's new metro line, to be equipped with Indra's technology
The total of both contracts is around € 6.5 M
The company gains leadership in ticketing in Mumbai, where it is already equipping the new metro with its systems
Indra expands its presence in India's ticketing market. The company has been awarded new contracts to implement its access control and ticketing systems in Mumbai's future monorail and in Delhi's Airport Express metro line. The total of both contracts is around euro 6.5 M.
India’s largest engineering and construction company, Larsen & Toubro, commissioned Indra to implement its systems in the new monorail in Mumbai which is under construction and will be operated by the Indian company.
The project requires the startup of a control centre, where the activity of all 18 stations of the monorail network will be supervised.
Each station of the only monorail network of the country will be equipped with Indra’s systems to sell one-way tokens, an electronic coin commonly used in Asia. Electronic cards will also be used for regular passengers. Both systems facilitate passenger flow as validation goes through radio frequency. With this in mind, the company will implement the access control systems with contactless technology. Ticket inspectors will be supplied portable inspection systems.
With this contract Indra strengthens its position as a main supplier of this type of systems in Mumbai, after being commissioned last year the implementation of its ticketing technology in the city’s first Metro line to connect Versova and Ghatkopar and which will become operative in 2011.
In the other hand, Delhi Airport Express Pvt. Ltd. commissioned Indra the implementation of its systems in the new line that will link the country’s capital to the Indira Ghandi international airport covering 22 km and 6 stations.
Delhi Airport Express and Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai’s metro concessionaire, belong to the same group: Reliance Energy Ltd. With this contract Indra strengthens bonds with this partner.
A part of the systems will be manufactured in India and the company will also remain present in the country for further maintenance services.
