Indra Group and Rheinmetall sign an agreement to integrate the NEMUS AESA radar into the Strikeshield active protection system

The two companies join forces to strengthen the protection of next-generation armored vehicles against new threats such as drones and hypersonic projectiles
Indra consolidates its role as a key provider of advanced radar solutions for APS systems worldwide
Indra Group has signed an agreement with Rheinmetall to integrate its NEMUS AESA radar into the modular architecture of StrikeShield active protection system (APS), strengthening the capabilities of next‑generation armored vehicle protection and reinforcing Indra’s role as a key supplier of advanced APS radar solutions worldwide.
NEMUS stands out as the only radar on the market capable of detecting, with the same hardware, extremely slow targets—such as drones flying at 10 m/s—while simultaneously tracking high‑velocity threats exceeding 2,000 m/s, including kinetic‑energy projectiles. This unique capability allows a single system to address a broad range of missions, being integrated into C‑UAS systems, short‑range air defense (SHORAD), intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) solutions, and active protection system (APS) applications for armored vehicles and battle tanks.
In this last domain, NEMUS provides precise detection and tracking of incoming threats directed against land platforms.
Rheinmetall’s StrikeShield APS provides the fire control calculation, selects and executes the most effective countermeasure solution, ensuring maximum survivability for both the platform and its crew.
Maria Dolores Carrillo, Business Development Director for Land Systems at Indra, stated: “This collaboration enables us to provide armed forces with the cutting-edge capabilities they require, while accelerating their deployment and ensuring technological sovereignty and control.”
Martin Debo, Head of Product Unit Active Protection Systems at Rheinmetall, stated: “This partnership combines our technological expertise, allowing us to establish a strong basis for future system enhancements and maximum survivability in the context of rapidly changing threat scenarios.”
Indra and Rheinmetall have worked closely in recent years to refine the NEMUS AESA radar through multiple live‑fire exercises and validation campaigns aimed at enhancing its performance and advancing its technological maturity.
With the signing of this agreement, Indra reinforces its role as a leading supplier of APS radars worldwide. The NEMUS radar family is currently being positioned in major European armored‑vehicle programs, including FAMOUS, MARTE and AURIGA. In addition, Indra will participate in the European Defence Agency’s (EDA) DARTBRAKER project, which will develop advanced active protection capabilities for next‑generation platforms.
