Minsait signs a contract with Aruba´s electricity provider to enable its digital transformation to meet the challenges of the energy sector

The agreement will enable N.V. Elmar to modernize its operations with smart grids, achieving technological development comparable to that of the leading energy companies
The sole distributor of electricity on the Caribbean island, N.V. Elmar has turned to Minsait for more efficient management to enable it to offer innovative products and services to its users
Minsait (Indra Group) has signed a contract with N.V. Elmar, Aruba’s sole electricity supplier, to complete the smart metering project comprising the tens of thousands of devices it has installed on the Caribbean island.
N.V. Elmar, a private company in the Utilities Aruba N.V. group, began its modernization process in 2014 with the installation of 48,000 smart meters, to which another 2,000 will be added in March. To further its digital transformation, the company from the autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands has relied on Minsait’s measurement platform, which, thanks to the capture and analysis of the data recorded, will be able to improve the quality of the service and detect any potential failures.
This ability to provide information is intended to generate benefits for the electricity provider and its customers, including more accurate billing and faster and more efficient responses to possible errors. In this regard, for example, the system implemented by Minsait will be able to issue alerts in the event of a power outage to ensure automated action, thus reducing the impact of any incidents and improving the company’s image.
The metering platform can also connect the data generated by the meters with billing and customer service systems to streamline operations and improve the service’s results.
30 years in Central America and the Caribbean
Following the signing of the agreement between N.V. Elmar and Minsait in January, the implementation will begin in March and it’s expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The electricity distribution company, set to operate 50,000 smart meters this year, will be able to adapt to any potential new demands from the people of Aruba without having to undergo any new developments, thanks to the scalability of the technological platform.
Minsait’s metering solutions can be found in 90 countries and they serve more than 500 utilities and 500 million customers. The contract with N.V. Elmar is the first of its kind in the Energy market of Aruba, although it has cooperated for 30 years with utility companies in Central America and the Caribbean (it operates in the Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Barbados, Belize and Bermuda) and it has extensive experience throughout Latin America (it works on an ongoing basis in Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Mexico). With this new agreement, explains Rafael Márquez, Minsait’s Director of Energy in Central America and the Caribbean, “N.V. Elmar will not only strengthen its metering system, it will also increase its digital capabilities. Our platform is equipped with the latest technologies and Aruba’s electricity distributor will have access to the same innovations as the most advanced companies in the sector, enabling it to improve the quality of its service and move towards new energy supply models”.
